What is a Developmental-Behavioral Pediatrician?

  • A Developmental-Behavioral Pediatrician (DBP) is an M.D. pediatric subspecialist who does 3 years of training beyond the training of a General Pediatrician.  They can be board-certified in the subspecialty, as Dr. Mandelberg is.  They are experts in understanding and managing conditions related to development, behavior, learning and emotionality.  They understand normal development, as well as developmental conditions including autism spectrum disorder and ADHD.  There is a range of practice settings and approaches for different DBPs - some work as part of a team, review outside reports and may do limited assessments.  Others, like Dr. Mandelberg, do their own broad based assessments, collaborate with outside therapists, prescribe medications when indicated and follow children and teens over time.

How do I schedule an appointment?

  • Dr. Mandelberg will do an evaluation on all patients he follows.  To set this up, reach out to his assistant, Beatrice, at assistant@dbpeds.com or 310-996-8990.  After leaving your email address, we will forward you information about our office and an initial (2-page) intake form (be aware that this may take 2-4 days).  After sending that back, we will determine the layout of the evaluation.  You would then be able to schedule a time to talk to Beatrice to ask questions and set up the visits.

Do you offer telehealth or virtual appointments?

  • At this time, we generally do parent discussion visits over Zoom.  Testing visits are always in person.  We also prefer to do medication follow ups in person..
